Verbal Abuse Test Score... what it means to you... and what you should do next:

Hi, this is couple therapist Abe Kass, MA RSW RMFT.

Each question in this Verbal Abuse Test identifies a particular form of verbal abuse. When you answered a question, "yes," that means you are being verbally abused.

All expressions of verbal abuse are harmful and wrong. The higher you scored, the more verbally abusive your partner is.

Ideally, everyone's partner should score "0." This is a reasonable goal. However, it is not always achieved.

The lower your score the less verbal abuse there is in your relationship. The higher your score the more verbal abuse there is in your relationship.

If this Verbal Abuse Test indicates low levels of harmful communication, it may be possible for you to look the other way, although this is far from ideal. If you can educate your partner as to the correct way to speak, this would be ideal.

Attending relationship therapy with a qualified relationship specialist or finding other means to learn proper communication would help your errant partner correct his or her harmful ways that he or she speaks to you.
